its the old man jackets with old levis jeans.... red selvage 50's 501's.... i remember feeling like you'd struck gold when you found a pair on the massive piles of vintage jean stacks. Shirts worn open..... love the old paisley and foulard patterned shirts,
we used to go to jumble sales and buy old mens pj's to get this look.
chunky knit sweaters were massive too.  Girls at school wore them with our pencil skirts.
the other thing I loved about the Smiths was their constant reference to the old poets.... keats, yates, Oscar wilde.....the Literature from the Victorian days, makes me think about the The industrial revolution to the Pre Raphaelites and all the amazing inspiration that comes from that period.
